Standing as a bogeyman, a guardian, a spirit or a partner this piece, 'HEAVY LEVITY' is a product of a process of visualising my experience of living with bipolar and the highs and lows that characterise it. Constructed from hand rolled and pressed clay coils interjected with gloopy white glaze this piece is a meditation on the levity of the highs and the weight of the lows and the seeming disconnect between them.

Lorded as the saviour to our reliance on carbon, lithium, as the lightest known metal, offers a solution not many other materials can rival. However the shininess of its potential has darker undercurrents, posing troubling realities to the ecosystems and communities that surround it as it gets mined, processed and dealt with unsustainably.
